Born and raised in Bengaluru, Latha Ghorpade embodies the spirit of service rooted deeply in strong cultural and moral values. Guided by the belief that “Ability lies beyond disability,” she has dedicated over a decade of her life to supporting children and adults with intellectual, physical, and visual challenges.
A Journey Born from Personal Experience
Latha’s path into special education was shaped by a deeply personal experience. When her first child was born prematurely and later diagnosed with intellectual developmental challenges, she transformed what could have been a personal setback into a lifelong mission. Determined to understand, support, and empower children with special needs, she pursued specialized education, vocational training, and creative art courses to better serve this community.
This personal journey evolved into a professional calling, inspiring her to work relentlessly toward helping children unlock their potential and lead independent, dignified lives.
Dedicated Career in Special Education
Latha Ghorpade has been associated with several reputed institutions in the field of disability support and inclusive education. She served for nearly eight years with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, working across multiple departments and supporting individuals with physical and visual impairments. Her role extended beyond teaching, as she became a moral guide and mentor, nurturing confidence and self-belief among her students.
She has also worked extensively with Seva-in-Action and Rainbow Learning Center, an initiative of PADA (Parents Association for the Differently Abled), contributing more than 13 years of service in empowering persons with disabilities.
Currently, she continues her work with PADA as a vocational trainer, art and craft instructor, and support teacher, mentoring students with disabilities to develop creative, practical, and livelihood skills.
Continuous Learning and Skill Development
In her constant pursuit of growth, Latha completed a Special Education Support Teachers Course in 2024 from Akshada Academy, strengthening her contribution to inclusive education.
She also pursued an online course in tailoring and dress designing from Kannada Fashion Tech, Chitradurga, discovering joy and creative fulfillment in designing and stitching garments. This skill not only enhanced her personal growth but also enabled her to explore vocational opportunities for differently abled individuals.
Additionally, she completed a certified training program in Imitation and Artificial Jewellery Making under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) facilitated by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Government of India, supporting self-employment and skill-based empowerment.
Community Leadership and Social Engagement
Beyond education, Latha Ghorpade plays an active role in community development. A proud resident of HSR Layout, Bengaluru, she serves as an active member of the HSR Citizen Forum (NGO), contributing to waste management initiatives and eco-friendly programs, supporting HSR’s identity as a model ward for sustainability.
She is also associated with Rashtriya Sevika Samithi (RSS) and serves as one of the group leaders of HSR Layout Maithriya Shaakhe, promoting moral values, cultural awareness, and community unity.
Mentorship, Arts, and Cultural Contributions
A mentor, choreographer, and cultural enthusiast, Latha has consistently encouraged creativity and confidence in her students. She has provided platforms for talented individuals, including visually impaired vocalist Balasubramanyam, a semi-finalist on Zee Kannada’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Season 20, helping hidden talents gain visibility and recognition.
Her interests also extend to fashion, modeling, sports, and beauty pageants, where she has participated in runway shows, competitions, and social events that celebrate confidence and individuality.
